Project Description

We love football. We love blockchain technologies. We love gaming... but most importantly: we love the prospect of empowering the entire world with economic advancement opportunities.

A little over a year ago we left our cushy startup jobs to develop a game that would appeal to the 1.8 billion football fans who are connected to the internet —especially those in LatAm and other developing regions of the world.

First we created an amazing match simulation engine —and week after week for the past nine months, we've been building in public with our budding community: creating the gaming experience that conquers every footy obsessed heart in the planet.

We've crossed the 100K matches played to-date. People engage with the game for over 40 minutes in average every day. Super users can play upwards of 2 hours daily: all of this in a product that hasn't had a formal launch yet.

Ephere Football is transforming the gamer's idea of ownership, control, and belonging: one fan at a time.

How it's Made

This project uses JS, C++, Python and other technologies as part of our codebase, but most importantly our stack comprises:

  • IPFS - To create NFTs that are immutable (in the sense that once they’re minted not even us are able to manipulate the metadata: CIDs essentially.) Today all players in Ephere belong in this category, in the near future all assets in the game will follow suit.

`+ Piñata: IPFS storage.

  • Web3Auth: Providing sign-up and authentication in a frictionless manner for ~70% of our current users. Helping us onboard this huge chunk of Web2 gamers and fans who are still to be converted into Web3, in addition to providing flexibility for users who browse and play on Safari.

  • Metamask: Our wallet of choice from day 1.

  • WalletConnect: Bringing flexibility for those users who are already onboarded to Web3 and wanted to bring their existing wallets over.

  • OpenZep: Top notch security for our smart contracts through their standards.

  • Chainlink: The oracle to connect our smart contracts <> APIs.

  • Ripio: To pay our salaries across three countries: Argentina, Uruguay, and Colombia!

We're strong believers in the power brought on by all of these sponsor technologies. Using Web3Auth has enabled us to onboard many more users than when just providing MetaMask and WalletConnect as authentication methods: which is especially important since most people nowadays (especially in LatAm) are not yet familiar with blockchain technologies —althought they will soon! It's also really impressive because people are not tied to a single browser to play the game (either on desktop or mobile.)

We think that using Ripio is kinda hacky (lol) since we needed to avoid high fees and charges from services like Deel, Payoneer, and such. This made our lives so much easier in dealing with stablecoin payments, offramping, and control. It's just one of those QoL things that keeps the team happy and motivated.
